This is the third time we have collaborated with the print fabric specialist maker "Hokkaido Co., Ltd." This fall, I chose "ear" as the motif for the print. Starting with the silvery pampas grass, the print features eight types of ears: rice, wheat, and barley grains, dog tail-like enokoro grass, tea ground sparrows, strawberry twill, and cattail ears. The challenge this time was how to express the delicate lines of the ears in a print. Mr. Nishimura, a designer, drew this time. It was the first time for him to create a pattern with only the ears, so it was difficult to balance each pattern and create variations so that it would not be monotonous. We consulted with not only the craftsmen at the printing factory but also the craftsmen in the process of creating the molds to see how much of this delicate pattern could be expressed in the print. We have created a print shirt with only the ears of autumn, where you can feel the scent of autumn.
